The Crypto 6 Case is slated to go to trial on December 6th, 2022, with Ian Freeman, co-host of Free Talk Live Radio broadcast, standing as the only defendant. After a Daubert motion was filed by Freeman’s counsel, the prosecution has excluded its so-called ‘expert’ from testifying at the trial.
Crypto 6 Set to Begin with All Fraud-Related Charges Dropped
In March 2021, federal agents raided the Free Talk Live Studio, the Bitcoin Embassy, and the Shire Free Church in Keene, New Hampshire. The US Department of Justice (DOJ) brought six charges against the defendants for allegedly operating a cryptocurrency exchange business without authorization, in violation of federal anti-money laundering laws and regulations.
Currently, the only defendant left is Ian Freeman, a libertarian activist and the co-host of Free Talk Live radio show. The jury selection is set to begin on December 6th, after which the trial will commence and is predicted to last two weeks. Freeman discussed the matter with Bitcoin.com News, noting that his legal team had filed a Daubert motion to exclude testimony from the FBI’s top Blockchain official “expert”.
“The feds then rushed the ‘expert’ to redo the analysis using the blockchain.com explorer, which they call ‘open source,’ even though it’s only open for public use, not open source,” Freeman said. “This is a tacit admission that they know the Chainalysis findings would fail the legal test and would be denied as evidence in a trial,” She added.
The Free Talk Live co-host went on to say that the prosecution would not allow the “expert” to present her testimony at the trial. He further explained that his lawyer had interviewed the FBI’s top blockchain expert, Erin Montgomery, and she admitted that anyone could do what she did and that her only degree was a liberal arts one.
According to thecrypto6.com website, supporters of Freeman will demonstrate outside the courthouse on December 12th, and major media outlets are expected to attend. The team is also working to obtain an audio feed for the online trial.
