Atsuko Sat?, the Japanese kindergarten teacher and owner of Kabosu, the Shiba Inu that inspired the popular Dogecoin cryptocurrency, shared on Instagram on December 26 that her beloved pet was in a “dangerous” state. She noted, however, that the dog should be “absolutely fine” thanks to the “worldwide power” of the cryptocurrency’s fans.
The crypto community responded with an outpouring of support for Kabosu. One Twitter user promised to cover any expenses related to the dog’s recovery, while Dogecoin co-creator Billy Markus asked his two million followers to send their love and prayers. Sat admitted that she wasn’t sure what was wrong with Kabosu, but noted that he had not eaten or drunk since Christmas Eve.
Kabosu was born in early 2022 and celebrated its 17th birthday this year. Its image, which was originally posted on Sat’s blog in 2010, was the catalyst for the “Doge” series of memes. Vitalik Buterin, the co-founder of Ethereum, was also a visitor to the blog.
The crypto community has united to support the real-life dog behind Dogecoin after it fell ill. Despite its age, Kabosu should make a full recovery with the help of its fans.
