Crypto Global Acceptance Lagging as Western Reputation Plummets, Warns Spacemesh’s Tomer Afek

Spacemesh is a layer 1 proof-of-space-time protocol that aims to make cryptocurrency more accessible and environmentally friendly. It replaces energy-intensive CPU work with energy-efficient disk storage, allowing the average person to mine crypto without specialized equipment or technical knowledge. Benzinga recently spoke with co-founder and CEO Tomer Afek about the company’s plans, the People’s Coin launch, and the current state of the blockchain market.

Tomer explained that the Spacemesh project is focused on achieving massively decentralized block production that is both profitable and sustainable. He added that the response to The People’s Coin launch has been overwhelming, with 50,000 miners already joining the network only three months in.

He also discussed the current state of the blockchain market. While there is a lot of potential for crypto, Tomer believes the global acceptance of it is not advancing quickly enough and the reputation of cryptocurrency is at an all-time low. He believes this is because of devastating events in 2022 and 2023. However, he believes that a rapidly changing, chaotic world needs a decentralized financial system and anti-fragile, and that necessity will breed adoption.

Finally, Tomer discussed government regulations and how they will shape the future of crypto. He believes that those who educate themselves and offer sensible solutions, such as managing to avoid blanket regulations, will gain an edge over others.
