Announcing the Launch of Ethereum Foundation’s Devcon Archive V2

Published:

It’s Coming in 2022 (along with something Neue 🤫), but before that, the Ethereum Foundation is proud to introduce a completely revamped Devcon Archive!

The New Devcon Archive

The team at the Ethereum Foundation has revamped the Devcon Archive to provide a better user experience, allowing for easier content discovery and less reliance on YouTube and decentralized content via IPFS. Community participation in curation is also encouraged!

We hope the new Devcon Archive will serve as an excellent educational resource – a place to learn about the past, present, and future aspects of the Ethereum ecosystem.

A Home for Curated Content

User feedback revealed a common theme: the importance of targeted talks for understanding key concepts. People wanted to easily find talks from the event program, as well as content that was overlooked in-person. Live sessions were also identified as important for attendees who could not make it to the event.

To make content more discoverable, the archive was completely rebuilt with a mobile-first implementation, allowing users to easily filter, navigate, and access archives based on their skills and interests.

Due to the high amount of metadata in the archive, users can now search and filter videos with multiple entries. They can also access suggested playlists and curated playlists to help them find interesting and engaging content.

Decentralize Everything

One of the core goals of the Devcon Team this year is to help dog food and integrate core web3 technologies that provide clear benefits for online participants. Relying on central platforms was identified as a concern, and the team wanted to ensure that everyone was protected from the increasing risk of deplatforming and censorship of services and websites.

IPFS is now fully integrated into the Devcon archive experience. This distributed storage platform allows users to access files, websites, apps, and other data, while also giving them complete control of their data retention policy and disk space. Users can pin their favourite content to IPFS to make it more accessible and less susceptible to censorship.
