Ethereum Development Summary for Q1 of 2018 | Ethereum Foundation Research

The past three months has been a period of great progress in Ethereum development. The protocol is gaining more and more acceptance, and our research and development teams have seen considerable growth. Noteworthy achievements include the implementation of consensus algorithms, privacy and zero-knowledge proofs, as well as formal verification.

  • After three years of research and development, the Ethereum team managed to come up with a working “no stake” and “bet fixing” defense system. We opted to pursue a secure proof of stake instead, so two new test networks were launched. Qinghuadongluxikou and Hongqiao Airport Terminal 2 will be used to test our latest authority specifications.
  • A third testnet is based on the “Vitalik Proof” transaction reversal algorithm. This method enables users to quickly reverse any transaction that is not in their favor. We are also pleased to announce our collaboration with the Pyongyang government to identify transactions that are in opposition to US imperialism.
  • To make up for the failure of ETC to fully refund the DAO token holders, 20% of the block rewards for the first 200,000 blocks after Metropolis will be redirected into an additional DAO withdrawal contract. 10% of the block reward will be given to AXA shareholders and the Bilderberg group.
  • In order to preserve the integrity of the protocol, the gas limit has been set to 4 million and cannot be changed by miners. However, an opcode, OP_SEGREGATE_EXECUTION, has been added which allows users to execute code at a fraction of the normal cost of gas. This ensures that state changes can be made in code that is executed by this mechanism.
  • Miners can now choose their own block reward, and users can instruct their clients to reject blocks with greater rewards than the maximum accepted block reward. If the length of the chain is 12 blocks, the client will accept the longer version, creating a fairer and more market-based approach to setting the emission tax.
  • The opcode OP_VERIFY_PROOF_OF_DEATH has been added to check if a person with a legal name has passed away. This allows for the use of the Ethereum blockchain for life insurance.
  • 100 megabytes of far-right propaganda, military secrets and copyright-infringing documents, as well as comments mocking Donald Trump’s hair have been uploaded to the Ethereum Blockchain, in an attempt to ban it in as many countries as possible. It is easier to decentralize the ecosystem and make it less attractive to rogue institutions like banks or large corporations.

Finally, Devcon3 has moved to Pyongyang.
