Quick Recap of Ethereum 2.0 Update No. 7

Published:

Recently, the Ethereum 2.0 development team have made some exciting progress, particularly in the areas of Lighthouse on Teardrop optimization and Prysmatic’s relaunch of the testnet with aggregators and mainnet setup. In addition, Vitalik’s proposal for a “Phase 1.5” has been gaining traction with the community. This article provides a high-level overview of all the updates.

The Sigma Prime team has been running a “not so publicized” public testnet with impressive gains in block processing and BLS. If you are a frontend designer, there is an RfP up for a Lighthouse UI.

Prysmatic Labs has restarted their public testnet with the core network configuration and attestation collection strategies. The mainnet configuration is generally heavier than the original, but is necessary for a reliable network.

Vitalik’s “Phase 1.5” proposal is discussed in detail, with potential benefits to both developers and users. This includes the possibility of Ethereum 1.0 living within Ethereum 2.0, reducing emissions by removing PoW, and unifying the community. The success of the proposal will depend on two components succeeding – Phase 1 on Ethereum 2.0 and Stateless Ethereum on Ethereum 1.0. The team is currently doing due diligence to refine the specs and understand the technical challenges ahead.
