Merge ready to go 🚀
Mainnet Merge on the Horizon
At Yesterday’s Consensus Layer meeting, engineers agreed on Mainnet Parameters Merge? Bellatrix era of 144896 and a TTD of 587500000000000000000000 (tentative). This TTD is based on the difficulty of the Proof Of Work so it is hard to predict exactly. The target date is currently estimated to be September 15, 2022, though this could change by a week. At The All Core Devs meeting next week, the group will check the estimates and make minor alterations to ensure the target date is met.
Reminder💡: The sequence of two updates that merges is called “merge”. Bellatrix is the consensus layer that precedes Paris in the execution layer.
Bellatrix updates the Beacon Chain to be “merge-aware”, incorporating the Beacon Chain’s Merge logic as validators begin to keep a close watch and manage the proof-of-work chain to initiate the Merge transition. Bellatrix goes live on the chosen date.
Paris is the Merge transition itself, in which the Ethereum Mainnet Hot Swaps the current Proof-of-Work with the Beacon Chain’s Proof-of-Stake. The Paris upgrade activates on the selected Total Terminal Difficulty (TTD).
