Today, ASIC miners are the industry standard for mining most cryptocurrencies, such as Bitcoin and Litecoin.

However, ASIC miners have been met with criticism from the cryptocurrency community. This is because they are expensive and only those with resources can afford them, leading to centralization. To combat this, cryptocurrencies have been developed that are resistant to ASIC-based mining.
