Huobi Global Suffers $8 Million Crypto Hack

HTX (formerly Huobi Global) has become the latest cryptocurrency exchange to suffer a hack, with attackers stealing $8 million worth of crypto, including 4,999 Ether (ETH). The incident was first brought to light by blockchain security and analytics platform Cyvers.

On Monday, Tron founder Justin Sun confirmed the attack, noting that the exchange had offered the hacker a 5% “white hat bonus” to return the loot. He also reassured users that the platform had covered the losses in full and that user funds were safe.

The attack reportedly occurred on September 24th and HTX immediately responded to Cyvers’ alert. The exchange also sent a message to the hacker that the HTX security team had “unmasked” their identity and offered a 5% “white hat bonus”. If the hacker fails to return the stolen funds within seven days, HTX plans to involve law enforcement.

HTX’s breach follows the then Huobi Global team denying claims that their representatives had been detained in China and the $70 million CoinEx hack. CoinEx had suspended deposits and withdrawals following the attack, with a resumption announced last week.
