ssz.dev: Technical Specifications And Resources SimpleSerialize SSZ

The Ethereum Core developers took the opportunity to update some aspects of the protocol when converting to Proof Of Stake. This included the SSZ or SerialZe, the canonical serialization form for the Ethereum PoS consensus layer. Serialization is the process of converting data to a format for transmission or storage, with SSZ converting consensus information to bytes to be represented in a merkle tree.

To make SSZ more accessible to developers, both in and outside the Ethereum ecosystem, ssz.dev was funded in March 2021. It has since grown and become a great resource for serializers and curious individuals alike. A few highlights include:

  • visualizer– Manipulate variables in different serialization types and see the output as serialized values and Merkle tree details.
  • Implementations: A list of active SSZ implementations with their basic characteristics (language license, maintainer etc.).
  • Tests: Consolidates test suites from different implementers, along with general information like terminology, output formats and test configuration

Although ssz.dev is still a work in progress, feedback and contributions are both welcome. Visit the Github repository for more information or to contribute.

CadCAD Education By cadCAD Masterclass: Ethereum Validator Economics

cadCAD is an open source project from BlockScience that allows users to simulate Complex adaptive dynamics (scoundrel) and use Computer Aided Design (SCOUNDREL) to design and validate complicated systems, such as blockchain networks. To help people learn more about cadCAD, CadCAD Education offers educational resources, including the CadCAD Masterclass: Ethereum Validator Economics. This class offers 3 hours of lectures and allows students to experiment and model with the Ethereum Validator economy.

This course was thrown out in early September and is free for everyone to take. However, a solid understanding of both Ethereum and CadCAD is recommended. After completing the course and all its requirements, a certificate will be issued. To stay up to date with the latest information and updates, follow @cadCAD_org and @cadCAD_Edu on Twitter and subscribe to their newsletter.

The Ethereum Economic model, which was developed for the Masterclass in collaboration with the EF Robust Incentives pool, has evolved into a powerful and versatile research tool. The model is housed in a repository with full documentation for researchers and engineers. You can even view the model in action without any technical knowledge at ethmodel
