Stellar (XLM) is set to activate its latest network upgrade, Protocol 20, on September 20 at 15:00 UTC. This upgrade will introduce Soroban smart contracts to the mainnet, providing developers and businesses building on Stellar with added benefits.
Justin Rice, VP of Ecosystem at the Stellar Development Foundation, said in a blog post that the upgrade is the biggest and most complex one yet. Testnet nodes must install the latest versions of the Stellar Core and Horizon in order to prepare for the roll out.
Once the stable release is out, validators will be able to vote and determine the potential date for the public network upgrade. This will be six weeks after the stable releases. Rice added that there may be a series of additional votes to adjust settings.
XLM, the native Stellar token, was largely muted around $0.11. It was down 7.5% in the past week and struggling for upside momentum, following recent declines from highs of $0.13. A key support level is at $0.10, and resistance is likely at year-to-date highs around $0.16.
