Telegram’s co-founder and CEO Pavel Durov announced new plans for the popular messaging app at Token2049 Dubai. This includes a tokenization project that will utilize the TON blockchain. The value of Toncoin (TON) rose after the TON Foundation and Tether partnered to bring USDT to the TON blockchain.
Durov revealed the next step in Telegram’s blockchain technology adoption, which involves tokenizing Telegram stickers and emojis as non-fungible tokens (NFTs). This follows the success of tokenized usernames and anonymous numbers, which allows users to earn up to 95% of revenue from the sale of unique usernames.
The project will exclusively use the TON blockchain, highlighting the role of blockchain technology in Telegram’s growth. Durov believes in socially-relevant NFTs and wants to tokenize Telegram stickers to integrate them into human culture and communication.
The native token of the TON blockchain, Toncoin (TON), saw a sharp increase in value after the launch of the ‘Ad Network’, which offers users a 50% share of ad-revenue. Today, TON price rose to $7.20 after the news of tokenizing stickers and the launch of USDT on the TON blockchain by Tether.
