World’s Fastest, Most Scalable Blockchain Proven By TON

Published:

Zug, Switzerland – On November 2nd, 2023, Chainwire reported that the TON blockchain achieved a record-breaking speed of 104,715 transactions per second (TPS) during a public, live-streamed stress test, verified and confirmed by Certik.

The Open Network Foundation (TON Foundation) conducted the test on 256 validators and, under heavy load, the testnet split into 512 shards, allowing the network to reach its impressive speed. This demonstration has proven TON’s capability of being a Web3 infrastructure platform for Telegram and large enterprises, as well as a decentralized network ready to replace traditional finance rails.

The test results surpass the reported speed of Visa and the previous record holder, reaching approximately 100,000 TPS. The data generated by the test was checked by TON Foundation’s security partner, CertiK. This Web3 smart contract auditor provided the necessary tools to guarantee the network’s stability and security, and also assisted TON Foundation in verifying network speeds. The live-streamed stress test was hosted by the infrastructure of Alibaba Cloud, the cloud computing subsidiary of Alibaba Group.

The stress test was composed of multiple layers of performance monitoring and verification. CertiK authenticated the network’s architecture to ensure the 256 validators were operational and configured according to the specified settings. The versions of the nodes’ software were also checked for uniformity. During the actual performance test, TON lite servers were used to fetch transaction counts at one-minute intervals, which were then used to calculate the TPS.

TON’s architecture enables the blockchain to be scalable by design. It uses an “infinite sharding paradigm” to form a blockchain of blockchains, capable of splitting into 2^30 workchains and each of these can be subdivided into up to 2^60 shards. This ensures that computational power is used as efficiently as possible.

Large enterprises have already started to recognize the benefits of leveraging TON for their Web3 services. In September 2023, TON Foundation announced a collaboration with Telegram and Tencent Cloud. These partnerships are the first of many, with TON set to play a crucial role in the mass adoption of blockchain technology.

“The most amazing thing is that, despite the record-breaking results, the speed reached is not the limit of what TON is capable of. With a sufficient number of validators, TON’s unique architecture allows the blockchain to scale almost infinitely and process millions of TPS from billions of users,” said Anatolii Makosov, Core Development Lead at TON Foundation. “We are pleased to show you in practice that, with only 256 cloud validators, the TON blockchain broke the world speed record.”
